Discovering talented indie authors has been a passion of mine since September of 2011 when I released my first Kindle book titled An Affair to Remember, the first book of my Freedom in Love Series. It wasn’t long before I had become introduced to authors whose words might not have seen the light of day, had indie publishing not come, and then exploded, onto the publishing scene.
Of course, to feature those authors whose books I’ve especially enjoyed, I couldn’t limit myself to writing a mere review on Amazon and Goodreads. I wanted to create an individual site where I could feature those titles and authors. Budden Book Reviews was born. Over the past year and a half, several authors and books have been featured – and this is only a start.
However, despite discovering so many talented authors, in the realm of music I still listened to the same few people I had enjoyed listening to over the years – especially the likes of Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Brad Paisley and Sarah Brightman, to name a few. In 2011, I was introduced to Josh Groban who became the voice playing in the background as I wrote – then published – one title after another, listening to one of his songs (My Confession) about 1,700 times – and I’m not done with listening to that song yet.
To my surprise, though, I clicked on a link recommended to me by a Facebook friend, Doug DePew and received the surprise of my life: I discovered another singer whom I know will sit among my list of favorite singers, especially if the songs I currently find myself listening to (over and over) are any indication of what is to come when her album, Small Talk, is complete and all songs are released to the public.
Who is this singer I speak so highly of – this singer whose voice gripped me from the first phrase I heard her sing? It is none other than Becca Lee Roberts – an up and coming country star who is sure to splash across the music scene and become a household name. In fact, currently, there is a voting system in place on Artist Signal which runs until the end of April. During this period of time, people are invited to vote for their favorite artists and can even vote for the same person multiple times over the life of the contest. If you’re like me, listening to the songs won’t be enough; you’ll have to buy them so you can listen to them whenever the mood strikes, wherever you are.
I’m not sure what the outcome of this contest will be but I can say, without a doubt, that I will be a lover of Becca Lee Roberts’ music for life. Roberts’ songs are filled with soul and, the lyrics being easily understood, convey a message which reaches into the depths of my soul. Dangerous Game and Beat of My Broken Heart have made their way toward the top of my “favorite song” list – in less than 24 hours, I might add.
Becca Lee Roberts, I wish you all the best in terms of this contest. I hope you get the votes you seek but, even beyond that, I hope you continue to minister to people through your music.
