Longing for My Baby

While longing, I wait for you,

Yearn to gaze into your eyes ...

Long to hold, to kiss and hug,

To count toes; it's no surprise ...

Rocking you to sleep at night,

Is a dream carried inside ...

Loving you comes easily,

You're still alive; I heave a sigh ...

Today is good; I feel at peace,

Joy abounds within my soul ...

But night falls and then I find,

Alone, again, I dream inside ...

The Story Behind the Poem

This particular poem was written when I was in the early stages of pregnancy with my son. I was filled with wonder and awe, but I was also approaching my mid-thirties. I felt a little nervous about what this particular pregnancy might entail, how it might be different from the pregnancies with my two daughters. It did have some challenges, but nothing life-threatening. Thankfully, all turned out okay.
